How to Maximize Insights In User Testing (https://lnkd.in/eZgr7Xas), a practical strategy to gather valuable insights in user testing, by starting with broad tasks and then zooming into specific tasks, by increasing task specificity over time.
If you ever stumbled upon testing not revealing useful insights, design stepped tasks for your users. There, you create a family of related tasks (the “steps”), with the first step being vague and broad, the second step being a follow-up question, and the third diving into specifics of a problem at hand.
Prepare directed tasks that target your points of interest, but give them to participants only if the broad tasks don’t give you the insights that you need. An interesting framework, kindly shared by Kara Pernice.
