Upgrading Career to AI to Do the Grunt Work
Driving business transformation comes down to one thing: removing the noise so you can focus on the work that matters. But mid-career professionals often hit a wall. Itโs rarely a lack of talent. Itโs usually a lack of time.
Whether you are managing people services, leading operations, or running a large team, the symptoms are the same. You get buried under operational grunt work and lose the space for strategic thinking.
This is exactly where AI changes the game. Itโs not about learning to code; itโs about upgrading your “Career OS” to get unstuck.
Here are three zero-fluff, highly practical ways to start using AI at work today:
- The Email Archaeologist
Stop wasting an hour reading a 40-deep email thread after a few days off. Drop the thread into your secure enterprise AI tool and ask: “Summarise the key decisions made here and list my specific action items.”
I also use the Summary feature of Co-Pilot a lot. It simplifies the email chain in key points.
- The Performance Review Co-Pilot
Staring at a blank page when writing feedback for your team is painful. Feed the AI your rough, bulleted notes on an employee’s achievements and areas for improvement over the quarter. Ask it to draft a structured review.
You still do the actual managing, coaching, and editing, but the AI breaks the blank-page paralysis.
- The Meeting Synthesizer
Instead of furiously typing notes during a tense stakeholder call, let an AI meeting assistant transcribe it. Afterwards, use this prompt: “Give me the top 3 risks identified in this meeting and the timeline we agreed upon.”
Now you can spend the actual meeting doing what matters: reading the room, managing relationships, and navigating complex team dynamics.
- Summarise documents
If your job requires you to read long, detailed documents, AI is your friend. I recommend you read the document at least once. AI can miss what you might not.
I do this a lot. Try it for charts and graphs also.
All this is GenAI of course. We will discuss Agentic in posts later.
The goal of AI isn’t to replace you. It is to automate the mundane so you can double down on what makes you irreplaceable:
= your judgment, your emotional agility, and your ability to lead people.
AI manages the data. You manage the relationships.
